Earlier this week, we sent recommendations and how-to guides for providing EHI to patients in a timely manner to ensure compliance with the 21st Century Cures Act originally scheduled to go into effect Nov. 2, 2020.
Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) postponed the compliance date for the information blocking provisions from Nov. 2, 2020 to April 5, 2021. Please note that all of the recommendations in our prior communication, including ensuring timely access to EHI by patients and other authorized persons, remain unchanged. We urge you to keep these recommendations top of mind for your practice as we enter the new year, and to ensure compliance by no later than April 5, 2021.
